Ken and Susanne stepped out of their very different worlds and came together on this special piece of land by the creek in the mid 90's. Susanne grew up in Germany, and she chose the land for its natural beauty and its proximity to her good friend, Holly.  Ken came from New York and brought with him his long-standing love for tipis and cooking. They built the house, the garden, the garden house, added two tipis – but it was not complete until their dream came true of becoming guardians for the old trees behind the house. You could literally hear the tall trees whisper: “Build it, and they will come." The Cabin in the Woods and the third tipi followed, along with a bath house, the garden cottage, an outdoor kitchen and a patio for outdoor dining. At last, the Retreat was ready -- a kind of “5-star Tipi Bed & Breakfast.”
